Spotswood Football Club

Annual General Meeting

AGM 2010

Presidents Report
Another year passes and another Annual Report to present for the Spotswood Football Club. It is on honour to be able to present this report.
The 2010 year could have been the most successful year of any football club within the WRFL, but unfortunately it wasnt to be. It is always a fantastic achievement to have teams playing in Grand Finals. Our Under 14D did so and won, for some of these kids it was their fourth Grand Final appearance but their first win. Then we had all three senior teams in Grand Finals, an absolute extraordinary accomplishment in its self, sadly it wasnt to be our day with all three teams losing narrowly.
Senior Coach Ben Kelly has decided to retire from football and concentrate on his family and business activities, we all wish him the best for the future. For the past 3 years Ben has been Senior Coach and taken us to 3 Grand Final appearances. This year he played a lot of young players who all stood up to the challenges of Senior Football, it is a step in the right direction that will give these kids more experience and the expectations of what Senior Football is all about.
We now welcome Chris OKeefe to the role of Senior Coach who will lead the club into what will hopefully be a fifth consecutive Grand Final, we all wish Chris along with the rest of our coaching staff the best for season 2011
As always, the success of the SFC is made up by the hard work of everyone around the club who are willing to assist; many, many people are involved and are passionate in ensuring our club continues to be successful.

During the previous 12 Months we have many people that assist, including all the parents that assist with each of the Junior Teams. Whether a Runner, Trainer, Time Keeper or any other position that is filled, your assistance with these teams are an integral part of the SFC. Without these people we do would not be able to put the teams on to the grounds each weekend.
There are many people behind the scenes that assist also.
With so many people required to ensure our club remains the best, we are always in need of more people to assist, please remember this and put up your hand when required.
SPONSORS play a big part in ensuring the SFC remains as successful as we are. Many new Sponsors got on board with us this year, including as Major Corporate Partners.

  • Mark Keenan for winning the Andrew Gibson Medal

  • Len Murphy for being awarded AFL Victoria State Volunteer of the Year Award

As I must do each year, I would like to thank my wife and the rest of my family. Joanne and my kids have continued to support myself as President and I thank them immensely.
During this year, I was fortunate to have taken my Family on an overseas holiday. For two weeks a must admit that I was concerned about the football club whilst away. It was very satisfying to return and everything was OK. This just goes to show that I dont always need to be in attendance and other people can step up and ensure our club remains running.
With this in mind, I am happy to continue on as President into 2011, remembering that at times I will not be there and others will need to stand up.
For the 2011 season and beyond it is going to be an exciting time for the SFC. Currently a strategic plan is being put together that looks forward for the next five years and our KPIs may seem high, but to continue to be as successful as we are we must set our aims high.
We want to be the best local football club, or to put it another way, we want to remain the best local football club.

If you are interested in joining our Board or as an assistant in anyway, please make contact and we will be only be too happy to accommodate you.

Thanks

Chris Murphy
